What is Atlas? We are working out where to spend autumn and winter outside London - somewhere warmer (or properly snowy), more active, alive on a Tuesday in February. This page is the working document for that search.

What's on here? 106 European locations (and counting), each scored across 22 dimensions - school quality, climate, walkability, public transport, architecture, food and creative scene, skiing, water and outdoor life, hotel-conversion potential, and more. Verified data where we have it; informed estimates elsewhere.

What can you do? Heart the places you'd back (multiple times - Medium-style; the more you love it, the more hearts you give). Leave notes with local knowledge or gut reactions. Suggest places we haven't considered. Marc will post updates as the search evolves.

Set your priorities

0 = doesn't matter, 10 = critical. Sliders use cubic weighting so high values dominate.

Swimming is mostly summer and skiing mostly winter - they rarely clash. Autumn/winter liveability captures how alive the town feels Novโ€“Mar (cities > resorts). Develop/hotel reflects tourism demand, conversion upside and openness to foreign buyers.
